Outdoor Summer Colour Trends

Summer is all about embracing colour - it’s about casting off the shackles of a dark grey winter and celebrating warmth in our homes. From the clothes we wear, to the fruit and vegetables we enjoy, through to the way we throw open our doors and decorate our outdoor spaces to celebrate the freedom that kinder weather brings. Summer brings us together, and we blur the lines between our indoor and outdoor spaces and enjoy the connection to the outdoors that we have yearned for all winter.

This summer we will continue to embrace the colours of nature, from the warmth of terracotta, turmeric and cinnamon tones through to foliage-inspired sage, eucalyptus and forest green.

We will look to the ocean for inspiration – from the palest of pale blues through to marine and deeper granite shades.

Pure white is a summer main-stay, but this year warmer whites, beiges, sands and taupes will soften the look to create a more raw, organic, yet still very chic feel.

Adding colour to your outdoor spaces is different to doing it indoors. Nature is your ready-made backdrop, so work with it rather than against it when selecting your colours. Greens and blues will work beautifully by a pool, but they will also visually cool down an enclosed or paved area.

Likewise, warm spicy hues will add warmth to a grey, white or neutral space such as a balcony. If you have natural timber table, colourful chairs are the perfect way to instantly embrace colour.

Natural materials like timber, rattan and wicker can be layered with pops of colour through cushions and tableware. For a more dramatic and sophisticated look, accessorise natural materials with black or grey homewares. Or if you love a more relaxed coastal vibe, add cushions and accessories in pale neutral tones.
